What She Will Miss

from The Stretch by James Hersch

/

about

I wrote this song for my wife for her retirement. Diane Schwartz asked me to. It's for all who try to bring answers to parents who have worries and questions about their children's development.

lyrics

She won't miss
The paperwork
Or learning some new software
She won't miss
Searching for the right words
To ease some parents nightmare
She won't miss
The winter mornings
Parking out in egypt again
She won't miss evals
In sketchy locales
Or trying to catch a busy mom at 7:00 a.m.

But what she will miss is the little things
Learning something new
About herself, especially about you
The stories and the laughter bring a tear or two
When she feels close to someone
She will miss the little things that matter
Each and every one

She won't miss
The miles and miles
On roads that seem to never end
Or the wishing
There was more she could do
In a world where she's doing all she can
She won't miss
The sad apartments
With no yard and no place to run
Or hauling toys
Through the hurry and the noise
Trying to bring a hopeful word to someone
