about

During my stay in Billings a young student passed me a poem he'd written quickly after I'd met with a group of his fellow students. I tried to tell how music makes me more able to be the person I want to be. I sang songs I'd written expressing that. The poem is his response to how I came across to him, and my guitar in particular. Number 41 is his words that I put to a tune. Thank you young Dylan.

Dirty Old Guitar (lyrics by Dylan Lammers)

Worn varnish, chips and scratches
Water spots and an old
Band aid stuck on the side
Of that dirty old guitar

Leather shoes, curly brown hair
Scratchy voice, soft face
Calloused fingers strumming
On that dirty old guitar

Comfortable tunes and penetrating lyrics
Resonating in my heart
Just as the sound resonates inside
that dirty old guitar

Worn skin, scars and bruises
Wisdom lines stretch across his face
While memories are relived
On that dirty old guitar
